The city of Fulton announced that the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Jubilee will be held on Thursday, December 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. The official City Christmas Tree is located across from the Fulton Municipal Building at 141 S. First St. The tree will be lit at 6:30 p.m. with photos with Santa following directly after in the Municipal Building Community Room.
Executive Director of United Way of Greater Oswego County Patrick Dewine met recently with Excellus BlueCross BlueShield Regional President Jim Reed to discuss the United Way’s Health and Well-Being impact area and the positive effect it has on programs such as the YMCA Oswego Adult Senior Programs and Aurora of CNY Social Work Services for Individuals with Vision/Hearing Loss.
The Oswego County Historical Society will host the annual Victorian Christmas Open House on Sunday, December 3 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Richardson-Bates House Museum at 135 E. Third St. in Oswego. A special live performance by local singer-songwriter Cam Caruso will take place between 2 – 4 p.m.
Burritt Motors has acquired Leon Shapiro Motor Sales of Oswego. A grand opening is scheduled for Dec. 15 at the Shapiro Motors 410 W. First St. location. The entire workforce of employees at Shapiro will stay in place and the new entity, Burritt Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, will continue to operate from the 410 W. First St. location.
AmeriCorps member, Jade Nelson recently organized a community involvement project benefiting the Oswego Animal Shelter. Nelson serves for AmeriCorps out of Oswego County Workforce New York in Fulton. Nelson recruited more than 10 volunteers; her friends, family and co-workers at Canale’s Restaurant in Oswego.
An inter-generational project which brought Oswego Middle School students together with St. Francis Commons Assisted Living Residence residents for collaborative “life stories” provided each group with some new memories and new friendships along the way. After a series of interviews with a resident, students took the information they gathered back to the classroom and began to prepare stories about what they had learned.
This is the perfect night for families to enjoy an evening of fun energetic holiday music, games, crafts, light refreshments and family photos. Each family will have an opportunity to have their pictures taken and receive a 5×7 photo, that will be ready for pick up after the event.
CNY Arts Center bids goodbye to 2017 with plans for Arty Camp 2018 already under way. The annual summer art camp enjoyed a new space located in the Arts Center on the Cayuga College Fulton Campus and continued support from the community for art and theatre classes. Arty Camp 2018 will offer new art mediums in a shorter four-week camp experience including both visual studio arts and performing arts.
