Mexico has a new business, Terri’s Country Crafts & Books is located at the Carriage House Shoppe at 3291 Main St., on the corner of Main Street and Washington Avenue. The grand opening will be September 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and there will be chances to win a gift basket as well as complimentary coffee and baked goods.
Members of the United Way of Greater Oswego County’s Campaign Cabinet are busy putting the final touches on the agenda for one of Oswego County’s most impactful events the United Way’s Annual Campaign Kick-Off Breakfast. Scheduled for September 10, the event will be held from 8 – 9 a.m. at the American Foundry, 246 W. Seneca St. (behind Fajita Grill on Route 104 West) in Oswego.
The Great Eastern Whiteout held in February at Fulton War Memorial and Lake Neatahwanta was once again a great success. During the off season, Fulton Area Snow Travelers Snowmobile Club spread the success. Four scholarships at $250 each were given to Oswego County students. Each scholarship was funded by the Great Eastern Whiteout Committee.
The Salvation Army of Oswego County and the Price Chopper stores in Oswego and Fulton are partnering to help children start the school year prepared to succeed. Each Price Chopper store will have an in-store display to encourage shoppers to purchase school items while shopping in the store.
The first Oswego County Substance Awareness Family Education Fair winner of the Apple iPod with case, ear buds and two $10 iTunes cards, was Sawyer Oakes, 6, of Parish. Sawyer and Avery Oakes attended the SAFE Fair with their family, Karen and Greg Oakes.
State Street United Methodist Church, 357 State St., will be hosting a chicken barbecue catered by Fricken Chicken to benefit the roof fund on September 21 from noon until dinners are sold out.
The Hannibal Historical Society will begin its 2014-2015 season with a business meeting on September 22 at 6 p.m. at the Hannibal Community Center on Oswego Street in the village. At 7 p.m., Alec Seymour of Fulton will show part of his large collection of antique telephones, telephone memorabilia and pictures.
Violinist Jon Shallit of the SUNY Oswego music department will pair with pianist Howard Spindler in a Focus on Faculty concert that seeks to evoke the meaning of the Romantic Period in music at 3 p.m. Sept. 14, in Sheldon Hall ballroom. “I’ve tried to select pieces that convey the real meaning — the depth — of the period,” Shallit said of the concert, titled “The Romantic Spirit.”
The Fulton Sunrise Rotary Club recently donated a collection of school supplies in support of the annual Stuff-A-Bus campaign. Held annually, the Stuff-A-Bus campaign, which is a collaboration between the United Way and Oswego County school districts, collects school supplies for children in need throughout Oswego County.
The Oswego City School District Board of Education will conduct its committee meetings and a regular session on Tuesday, September 2 beginning at 5 p.m. in the board room of the Education Center.
