Ruth Gruber, an American journalist who stumbled into one of the great rescue stories of the Holocaust when the U.S. government appointed her to escort nearly 1,000 Jews across U-boat infested waters to the shores of the United States, died Nov. 17 at her home in Manhattan. She was 105. Her son David Michaels, assistant secretary of labor for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, confirmed the death

NY State Public Service Commission Approves Sale of FitzPatrick Nuclear Plant

Today (Nov. 17), in a 4-0 vote, the NY State Public Service Commission approved the sale of the FitzPatrick nuclear plant. In August, Entergy accepted an offer from Exelon Corp. to buy the facility for $110 million. Prior to this agreement, Entergy was preparing to shut down the FitzPatrick plant in January 2017. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission still need to approve the sale.

Oswego BOE Approves Public Hearing, Special District Vote

The Oswego City School District Tuesday night took another step toward relocating its administrative offices into a section of one of its elementary schools. The district is seeking voter approval to use money from its capital reserve fund to make renovations at two schools and to sell the Education Center. A public hearing on the plan will be held in early January.
