Mayor Barlow Announces 2023 “Rock the Docks” Concert Series Lineup

Mayor Billy Barlow announced today the lineup for the third year of the “Rock the Docks” concert series.  “Rock the Docks” will kick off on August 5 with local musician Dave Hawthorne. The concert series is designed to entertain docked boaters and tenants of Wright’s Landing with the permanent stage positioned to provide prime viewing and listening by boats in the marina area and harbor. Attendees from land may also use a small seating area available in the west end parking lot.  Concerts are free to attend and will run from 6:00pm to 9:00 p.m.

Oswego County Honors Deep History of Lake Ontario

Oswego County’s rich marine history is on display – from events to exhibits. The H. Lee White Maritime Museum in Oswego hosts a new display for the 2023 season, “Shipwrecks of Upstate NY.” The exhibit offers a detailed look at the shipwrecks below Lake Ontario using 3D printed and hand-painted scale models of shipwreck sites.

Cahill Landing William G. Pomeroy Historic Marker Dedication Ceremony Scheduled for July 19th

The Heritage Foundation of Oswego County in conjunction with Mark Slosek, Oswego City Historian, are pleased to announce that a ceremony to unveil and dedicate a historic marker for the Cahill Landing building will take place on Wednesday, July 19 at 6:00 p.m. on the riverside of the Cahill Landing building. The Historic Marker was awarded by the William G. Pomeroy Foundation after extensive research was completed to demonstrate that the inscription is historically accurate. Those planning to attend are requested to assemble on West Linear Park in front of Cahill Landing.

H. Lee White Museum, NOAA, City, County Of Oswego Commemorate “Getaway Gertie”

The H. Lee White Maritime Museum recently joined Oswego County, the City of Oswego and the proposed Lake Ontario National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council to host the “Getaway Gertie” commemoration on June 24. The event served as a public tribute to the lost crew of a B-24 Liberator bomber believed to have crashed into Lake Ontario during World War II training exercises. The four-engine bomber has never been found and was last heard flying low over the eastern shore of Great Lake Ontario during a snowstorm in February 1944.

Mamta Saxena, an associate professor of human development at SUNY Oswego, earned the Best Overall Presenter award for her virtual presentation of “Juggling Chaos: Gender Issues in Navigating Demands, Family Routines and Stress During the Pandemic” at the ninth World Conference on Women’s Studies.
