Julian Ross couldn’t go to DisneyWorld — so a cadre of volunteers brought DisneyWorld to Oswego. However, Julian was unable to get to Oswego. His mother, Kristi, shared the event with him via a video chat on her phone. Several Disney characters entertained the children.

2015 In Review: May – Incumbents Maintain Their School Board Seats, Budget Passed

Garnering the most votes was Lynda Sereno, the current board vice president, with an unofficial count of 1,398. Tom DeCastro tallied the second most votes with an unofficial total of 1,310. The final count for the budget was 1,150 yes, and 1.079 no. Also, The Oswego Boxing Club is now home of a champion. Thomas Nitzke Jr. competed in the Golden Gloves Championship. He won the 123-pound class.

Michael Barnes and Dave Danzer lead the 59th annual Budweiser International Classic 200 starting field to the green flag at Oswego Speedway. The race will air nationally on MAVTV on Thanksgiving night.

2015 In Review: March – Rudy’s Opening Heralds The Arrival Of Spring

Many of the first customers at Rudy’s this March sported winter jackets and hats instead of shorts and T-shirts. Local residents know that Spring really returns as soon as the historic little restaurant nestled on the shore of Lake Ontario throws open its doors. The Oswego Common Council Chambers were filled to standing-room-only capacity in early March. For about an hour, freshman U.S. Congressman John Katko responded to questions regarding economic development in Oswego County.

2015 In Review: February – Dozens Welcome Julian Home

Dozens of people stood in frigid temperatures on February 2 to welcome home a young boy in the final stages of neuroblastoma. Julian Ross had just completed another round of tests in Maryland. His family documented the journey on Facebook. Also, the Oswego Salvation Army graduated three students in the inaugural session of the “Bridging the Gap Between Youth and Community Services” program developed by The Salvation Army.

2015 In Review: January – Council, Legislature Reorganize; Hospital Welcomes First Baby Of The Year

Oswego Hospital welcomed its first baby of 2015 at 2:16 a.m. on New Year’s Day. Barry Lee Babcock was the hospital’s first newborn, weighing 8 pounds, 5 ounces. His length was 21 inches. Eric VanBuren (Sixth Ward) and Shawn Walker (Fourth Ward) were appointed president and vice president, respectively of the Oswego Common Council. The Oswego County Legislature got its house in order for 2015, and it looked quite similar to 2014. Kevin Gardner was re-elected as the chairman of the Oswego County Legislature. Fellow Republican Linda Lockwood was re-elected vice chair.
