Rain Hits Oswego County Hard

The building that was home to Smart Tire and Burdick Tire in Fulton, but has sat empty for several years, will soon be torn down.
In its place will be what its new owner hopes is a paid parking lot.

The event, which serves as a major fundraiser for the Oswego YMCA, had hundreds of participants and some very close races. Also this year, they introduced bicycle races for the younger children as well.
Radar estimates and spotter reports indicate two to four inches of rain has fallen across portions of Oswego and Lewis counties. One and a half to two and a half inches of rain has fallen across portions of eastern Jefferson county. An additional inch to two inches of rain is expected to fall tonight.
This additional rainfall will cause some creeks and streams to approach bankfull. Minor flooding in urban areas and areas with poor drainage is also possible.
The annual Tales of the Harbor was held under clear skies Friday night. Some of the yarns were familiar and there were some new tales as well spun by Jonel Langenfeld-Rial of SUNY Oswego’s Theater Department. She stepped into the storyteller role taking over for another distinguished theater professor, the late Rosemary Nesbitt.
On Aug. 20, at about 3:10 a.m., Oswego Police were dispatched to a burglary in progress at a West Cayuga Street residence. Subsequently four suspects were charged in connection with the crime.
Oswego County’s unemployment rate jumped again in July, making it the second-highest jobless rate in Upstate New York.
The county unemployment rate rose to 9.8% in July, up from 9.5% in June and 9.4% in July, 2009.
When students return for the 2010-11 school they will notice some changes aimed at enhancing their academic careers Other changes, they might not notice. ‘We want to instill school spirit, Buc Pride, from the elementary level right through graduation. Buc Pride,’ the superintendent said.
