Port of Oswego Sets Record Year In Grain Exports

This year, the port exported more than 51,000 metric tons of soybeans to foreign markets which is a 325% increase from 2017. “The numbers are very encouraging for the entire Central New York region,” said Acting Port Director William Scriber. “The port now offers farm to ship direct loading which had not previously existed in Central New York.”

Fulton Begins Switch to LED Street Lights

After discussing the possibility to switch to LED street lights for years for the sake of cost savings, National Grid has given city of Fulton officials approval to begin the conversion. Fulton City Clerk Daniel O’Brien said National Grid gave a tentative start date between November 28 and December 5 to begin converting the first phase of street lights throughout the city.

Fort Ontario refugee Dr. Hugo Graner, a 51-year-old medical doctor from Keshnitz, Austria, receives a warm reception from his daughter Hildergarde, aged 13 (left); his son Otto, aged 16 (right); and his wife Elsa when he arrived in New York on January 18, 1945. Graner’s reunion with his family marked the end of a seven-year separation, the last year and a half of which he spent alone at Fort Ontario while his family lived only a six-hour train ride away.
