Oswego Firefighters are fighting a residential fire at 56 Liberty St. in the city of Oswego this morning (September 24). The building is a multiple-family, two-story building with three apartments. Residents were able to evacuate the building.

“It’s never too early to think safety. The calendar may say winter begins on December 21, but snow emergencies can take place in October. That’s why it makes sense to prepare for it now,” Dale Currier, director of the Oswego County Emergency Management Office said. “I urge residents to prepare their families and their property for the winter months ahead by taking some simple, common-sense steps today.”

Officers from Oswego High School’s National Honor Society chapter were invited to a special ceremony on Sept. 21 at the Safe Haven Holocaust Refugee Shelter Museum, where U.S. Rep. John Katko helped the students and Oswego community celebrate the passage of the Fort Ontario Study Act.

In April 2016, dozens of Kingsford Park Elementary School students marched to City Hall to advocate for a new and safer playground at the park adjacent to their school. Today (September 21), they saw the results of their efforts. Mayor Billy Barlow officially opened the brand new Kingsford Park School playground with a ribbon cutting event with school administrators, staff, students and many others.

Wired Telecom was named the 2018 “Next Great Idea” Oswego County Business Competition winner at a reception held Tuesday, September 18, at The Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center, Oswego. The company was awarded $50,000 to expand its business in Oswego County.

Mayor Billy Barlow announced today (September 20) the implementation of an electric car charging station in the city of Oswego. The charging station, located near Oswego City Hall at the West Second and Oneida streets intersection in downtown, is the first electric car charging station placed in the city of Oswego and is part of Mayor Barlow’s pursuit of making Oswego a NYSERDA Clean Energy Community.

Governor Andrew Cuomo today (September 19) announced six projects being funded under the Empire State Poverty Reduction Initiative in Oswego. The Governor’s $25 million initiative was created to help 16 communities develop locally driven strategies to reduce poverty and increase economic opportunity for all New Yorkers.
