Oswego School Officials Get Moving On Math & Movement Program

The National Math Foundation (a not-for-profit national charity) is hosting a Summer Institute teacher training and the Super Fun Math Youth Program through August 10 at Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center in Oswego, featuring the Math & Movement Program. The NMF announced Tuesday that the Oswego City School District is the first recipient of its Math Corps II Program Award. The program is for the entire 2017-18 school year in both Minetto and Charles E Riley elementary schools, the two largest elementary populations.

Join us for the 7th Annual Hunter Arms/L.C.Smith Homecoming Weekend, August 18th and 19th, 2017 hosted by the Friends of History in Fulton, N.Y., Inc. This two-day event will include special displays (August 19th) at the Pratt House Museum, a shoot, and a dinner during which trophies will be awarded. The museum houses a collection of HUNTER ARMS / L.C. SMITH shotgun/memorabilia on the second floor. During this special weekend, the first floor of the house will be transformed into a museum of “Elsies” shotguns, individually crafted by the artisans who were employed by the Hunter Arms Company.

Mayor Barlow Identifies Damage Caused By High Lake Levels; Will Pursue Damage Assistance

Mayor Billy Barlow today (Aug. 8) announced that Oswego city government has identified specific areas of damage in the Port City due to above average Lake Ontario water levels and flooding along the lake shore within city limits. Under an emergency work order, the city of Oswego hired Delta Engineers to conduct a preliminary survey of the damages caused by the high-water levels and intend to pursue funding to help repair the damage and mitigate against additional damage should high water levels continue to exist in the future.

The Fulton Block Builders Can Be Seen Gathering All Over The City

Dennis Merlino and Steven Cappelltti are block leaders in the Cayuga Street area and worked with members of the Fulton Church of the Nazarene to put together a great day at Quirk Park. There was a bounce house, face painting, music, food, wood working projects for kids and even a real fire truck and police car for families to explore. “It’s just wonderful to see our community coming together and enjoying a beautiful summer day together,” said Dennis Merlino. This was one of many neighborhood gatherings as part of the Fulton Block Builders.

Oswego City School District Wins National Math Corps Award

The National Math Foundation announced today (August 8) that Oswego City School District is the first recipient of its Math Corps II Program Award. NMF will coordinate the program from September- June to develop and implement programs, events, training, materials and resource development via a Corps Member placed in the schools.

Port City Seeks To Curb Skunk Infestation

At Monday night’s meeting of the Administrative Services Committee, councilors recommended a budget transfer to address the city’s skunk nuisance. The animal control officer requested a transfer of $8,000 to cover the cost of nuisance wildlife trapping services in the city for the 2017 trapping season provided by O’Gorman’s Wildlife Removal.

CNY Arts Center Puts a Face to Fulton’s Future

The big, shining faces of dozens of Fulton youngsters can be seen plastered on the walls of City Hall, “Fulton’s Future” labeled proudly on a sign held by each. The Fulton’s Future Mural is part of the larger campaign “Fulton’s Future Project” with the mission to build Fulton’s future through the arts, said CNY Arts Center Director Nancy Fox. The mural was a spin-off of the “Inside Out Project” a global campaign helping people turn their message into art. “Our message is that we believe that Fulton’s future is found in our children and it’s very bright and we should never forget that,” Fox said.

Oswego County Man is pulled to safety after being pinned underneath his vehicle

On Friday, August 4, at approximately 8 p.m., State Police in Fulton responded to 253 County Route 57 in the town of Schroeppel for a reported man trapped under a vehicle near the Oswego River. When Troopers arrived, they discovered a man was pulled to safety by three men who heard him yelling for help.

Fulton Officials Detail Grant Funding for Former Nestle Site

The announcement of a $250,000 grant secured for the former Nestle site in Fulton has city officials “thrilled” for the ongoing development of the site. Federal funding from the Northern Border Regional Commission’s Economic and Infrastructure Development Investment Program will benefit needed infrastructure work for further development of the 24-acre site located at 555 S. Fourth St. “This was a very competitive type grant from a federal funding source. We had found that we were up against some other projects locally so we’re very thrilled to receive this,” said Joe Fiumara, executive director of the Fulton Community Development Agency.

Katko Announces $250,000 Economic and Infrastructure Development Grant For Site Of Former Nestle Facility

U.S. Rep. John Katko today (Aug. 4) announced that the city of Fulton has been awarded a $250,000 grant from the Northern Border Regional Commission’s Economic and Infrastructure Development Investment Program. According to the city of Fulton’s grant application, this grant will allow the city of Fulton to properly size and place more than 3,800 linear feet of water and sewer mains and update storm sewer lines at the former site of the Fulton Nestle facility.
