Due to low numbers of mosquitoes and recent test results that show no evidence of Eastern equine encephalitis virus, the Oswego County Health Department has decided not to conduct aerial spraying of the Toad Harbor area at this time. Although the mosquito population continues to decline, people in Oswego County should continue to protect themselves from mosquitoes until the first hard frost.
The measure passed the House 158-101 and addresses the recent surge in synthetic drug use. It specifically bans 22 synthetic chemicals used to make drugs like “Spice” and “K2,” and outlaws three variants of fentanyl, which is among the most potent and dangerous drugs on the market today.

At Monday night’s Common Council meeting, the mayor’s proposed rental fee permit hike was approved, 5-1-1. Council president Shawn Walker cast the lone nay vote and Councilor Robert Corradino abstained. It will help hold landlords accountable and pressure them into maintaining their property, the mayor said.
The Oswego County Historical Society is proudly celebrating the 75th anniversary of the historic landmark Oswego Theatre, which opened it doors in January of 1941. A classic movie night showing the popular film “Casablanca” will be featured on October 13 at 7 p.m. in the Oswego Theatre, 138 W. Second St.
The State Comptroller’s Office recently released an audit of the Oswego City School District. The purpose of the audit was to review the district’s financial condition and nonresident tuition for foster students for the period July 1, 2014 through December 31, 2015. Among the findings: The district doesn’t have an effective process to identify all nonresident foster students receiving educational services and bill their school districts for those services. The district didn’t bill and collect about $237,000 in reimbursement for students. The district is taking corrective action.
Oswego Police in conjunction with SUNY Oswego and investigators from the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles with the help of local businesses targeted underage drinking and the use of fraudulent driver’s licenses. Overnight Friday, the detail issued 24 citations for people attempting to use fraudulent driver’s licenses.
The Oswego County Health Department reported today (Sept. 23) that an Oswego resident is recovering from West Nile virus. The resident was hospitalized and is now recovering at home. Residents of all ages are advised to continue to protect themselves from mosquitoes until the first hard frost occurs.
The Oswego City School District tax bills will be mailed on September 30. The school district will not be collecting taxes at the Education Center this year.
