Deer Hunting in Oswego County: Best of Both Zones

October sets the state’s regular deer hunting season into motion. Boasting opening day of the northern zone, it gives average hunters their first chance to go out and drop a deer. For guys who prefer the relative comfort of the state’s more cultivated region, it gets them psyched-up for the southern zone’s opener next month. Whichever you prefer, Oswego County is split almost equally between the two, offering the best of both zones.

Oswego State Men’s Hockey Falls Short In Defensive Battle 2-1 To Elmira

After scoring seven goals in the first game of the season, the Oswego State men’s hockey offense was shut down in a 2-1 loss at Elmira on Saturday night. Both goaltenders were showcased during the contest as the Lakers’ Paul Beckwith (So., Cleveland, Ohio) stopped 41 of the 43 shots he faced, only to be outdone by the Soaring Eagles’ Casey Tuttle, who registered 37 saves. Both squads are now 1-1-0 on the season.

The Oswego State volleyball dropped four matches in straight sets during the second round of SUNYAC pool play in Fredonia on Friday and Saturday. The Lakers lost to Geneseo (15-25, 16-25, 22-25), Brockport (15-25, 17-25, 22-25), Buffalo State (17-25, 14-25, 22-25), and Fredonia (15-25, 9-25, 19-25).

Oswego State Women’s Soccer Closes Out Season With 4-0 Loss At Oneonta

The Oswego State women’s soccer team closed out its 2009 campaign with a 4-0 loss at Oneonta on Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons received goals from four different players as they clinched either the top or second seed with a 7-2-0 league record and an overall record of 11-3-3. The Lakers finished the season with a mark of 7-9-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the SUNY Athletic Conference.
