Oz Roller Girls Roll Out Community Support

Meals via wheels - members of the Oz Roller Girls present Major Corinne Hayes of the Oswego Salvation Army with canned goods and other non-perishable food items collected from the community to support the local organization's food services. A portion of proceeds from that bout also supported the local Veterans Administration Outpatient Clinic.

The Oz Roller Girls, the community’s new flat-track women’s roller derby league, has blocked out time to address a number of community causes, from hunger to veteran support to animal welfare. Leading up to their first bout, the team mounted a food drive to support the Oswego Salvation Army food services that help hungry families in the community.

Senator Ritchie, Community Agencies To Host Career And Resource Expo

Holly Carpenter of Senator Patty Ritchie’s office recently met with representatives from the agencies and organizations that the senator is collaborating with to host a Career and Resource Expo. In response to the near record rate of unemployment in Oswego County, Senator Patty Ritchie has spearheaded a plan to help families and individuals prepare for the future. The senator’s office has reached out to organizations and business leaders to form a collaboration that will host a Career and Resource Expo for Oswego County residents.

Cayuga Community College Hosts Book Drive For United Way

Members of PTK at Cayuga Community College’s Fulton Campus are holding a book drive for the United Way of Greater Oswego County’s Success By 6 Program. Faculty, staff and students of Cayuga Community College’s Fulton Campus are accepting donations of new and gently used children’s books for the United Way of Greater Oswego County’s Success By 6 Program.  The book drive is to collect children’s books for distribution during Fulton’s annual Memorial Day Parade.

Child Protection Committee Plans Community Forums April 28, May 3

The Oswego County Child Protection Advisory Council will sponsor two more community forums to discuss issues of child abuse and neglect, one in Fulton and the other in Central Square. Council members are looking for the public input on how people can take action to strengthen families and communities, and reduce incidents of child abuse and maltreatment.

Child Protection Advisory Council Holds Community Meetings

The Oswego County Child Protection Advisory Council will host two more community forums to provide opportunities for citizens to share their views and develop ideas for preventing child abuse in the county.  The council has adopted the motto, “Our Children, Our County, Our Future – Our Responsibility.”

One of the most anticipated events of the spring season is almost here. On April 30, the, Oswego Christian Community School’s fourth annual auction will be held from 1 – 4 p.m. at the Oswego Armory, West First Street. Featuring both a silent auction and a live auction, the event boasts an impressive selection of items that will appeal to all ages.

WBUC Mobile Studio Provides Student, Community Benefits

Steve Coffey explains some of the equipment in the WBUC mobile studio to Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Cathy Chamberlain and Oswego High School Principal Brian Hartwell.

Recently, as the result of a $196,000 ARRA EETT (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Enhancing Education Through Technology) grant the WBUC television station will be on the scene once again. A mobile studio made its debut recently for an Oswego High School varsity lacrosse game and in the months ahead the students will be visible throughout the community providing programming spotlighting Oswego.
