Listening While Lunching at Volney Elementary

May 2, 2011 Contributor

Librarian Sarah Fay recently hosted an unusual event in the Volney Elementary School library … lunch! While it is usually against the rules to eat or drink in the library, for an entire week, a group of 34 sixth graders reported to the library to have lunch while Fay read to them from the chapter book “Swear to Howdy” by Wendelin Van Draanen. Each day, after listening to several chapters, the group would hold a discussion about what took place in that day’s installment and what they thought might happen next in the story. This is the seventh year of the Library Luncheon which is designed to promote literacy and encourage a love of reading and books. Among those listening attentively while Fay reads are Audrey Johnston, Victoria Issac, Gage McHenry, Nathan Shaw, Brandon Tice and Jade Blaisier.Librarian Sarah Fay recently hosted an unusual event in the Volney Elementary School library … lunch!
