Fulton District Officials Announce 2017 Election Results

The Fulton City School District held a special meeting tonight (May 17) to announce the 2017 election results.

After Fulton voters took to one polling place for the first time, all casting their votes at the Fulton War Memorial on Tuesday, May 16, the votes have been tallied and the results have been determined. Due to a circumstance in which only two candidates ran for three vacant seats on the board of education, district officials were delayed in their announcement after seeking guidance from district attornies, Superintendent Brian Pulvino said.

Write-In Votes to Determine Vacancy on Fulton School Board

With the public hearing complete and the budget newsletter delivered, the final step in the budget process is narrowed down to the public vote for registered voters of the district scheduled for May 16 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. For the first time, only one polling location will serve the entire Fulton community. Eligible voters can cast their vote at the Fulton War Memorial, 609 W. Broadway. Voters will see multiple propositions on the ballot in addition to the 2017-18 proposed budget. Three open seats on the FCSD Board of Education will be voted upon. However, only the names of the two nominating petitions received will appear on the ballot in order of how they were drawn.

Fulton BOE Adopts 2017-18 Budget Following Increased State Aid

The Fulton Board of Education unanimously adopted a $70,782,921 budget for the 2017-2018 school year with the six present board member’s votes in favor. In it’s adopted form, the budget shows a 0.63% increase in spending from last year with a 1.34% decrease in the tax levy, resulting in lower taxes for property owners within the district. “I think it’s a fair budget,” said FCSD superintendent, Brian Pulvino.

Community, School District Connect at Third Annual Parent University

The third annual Parent University was “phenomenal,” said Geri Geitner, the director of student support services at Fulton City School District. “The best part for me, was to see everyone having fun. To see that school is fun, learning is fun, and to see parents and children getting to enjoy that together,” she said. The event, in its third year, has grown bigger and better with each passing year. Saturday, (April 1) G. Ray Bodley High School hosted the event with five hours of free family fun.

Public Invited To Free Day Of Family Fun at Annual Parent University

Fulton City School District officials invite district families to a day of free family fun at Parent University to be held Saturday (April 1) from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at G. Ray Bodley High School located at 6 William Gillard Drive. The event is entirely free and will provide a full day of fun, learning, and opportunities. Similar to last year, transportation is available upon reservation and supervised activities for children ages 4-12 are available throughout the event.

Fulton Superintendent Presents First Draft of 2017-18 Budget

Superintendent Brian Pulvino presented his first Fulton City School District official budget draft at a board of education meeting held Monday (March 20) since beginning his position with the district this school year. In it’s earliest draft form, the 2017-2018 school budget totals $70,542,921 showing a $206,421 increase from the 2016-2017 budget, a difference of 0.29 percent.

Fulton City School District Audit Shows Surplus

An external auditor recently summarized the Fulton City School District audit findings which were then relayed to the Board of Education at Tuesday’s (Oct 25) regular meeting. The audit showed that the revenues of the district exceeded the expenditures for the 2015-16 school budget, resulting in an operational surplus just over $518,000 allowing school officials to replenish district’s reserves and fund balances.

Fulton Schools Continue Lead Water Testing Under New State Regulations

Staff at Fulton City School District is hurriedly collecting water samples from all outlets throughout the district to satisfy new lead testing regulations in New York State. Signed into law by NYS Governor Andrew Cuomo on September 6, 2016, legislation Subpart 67-4 sets new regulations for all public schools grades Kindergarten-12 across the state in regards to lead testing of drinking water within school buildings.
