2016 Oswego Writing Institute Features Award-Winning Authors

The 2016 Oswego Writing Institute, co-sponsored by the SUNY Oswego School of Education, Team Sheldon, and the Fulton City School District, August 16-17, will benefit the Literacy Coalition of Oswego County, said Mike Egan, president of the LCOC Leadership Council. There is no charge to attend the two-day event, but all donations will benefit LCOC.

Fulton One of Six in NYS to Participate in Dual Enrollment Experiment

The Fulton Board of Education heard about the district’s distinct opportunity to participate in a “cutting edge” experiment designated to only six school districts in New York State. Partnering with Cayuga Community College, FCSD is moving forward with the Dual Enrollment Experimental Site Initiative as the U.S. Department of Education pairs 44 colleges throughout the country with low-income high school students eligible for PELL grant funding for college courses to start working earlier toward the completion of a degree program. FCSD specifically has initially targeted 35 Bodley High School students that would be eligible for PELL grant funds to complete a minimum of 12 credit hours through courses at CCC Fulton Campus while also enrolled and earning the necessary credits at GRB.

Fulton District Changes School Policy to Include Gender Identity Protection

The Fulton City School District Board of Education heard the first reading for a number of policy changes for the district at Tuesday’s (May 10) regular meeting. As Superintendent of Schools, William Lynch read through more than 15 policy changes, most were merely grammatical or stylistic changes. However, for Policy #5410 Dignity for All Students Act, a change was made to include gender identity as a protected class against discrimination and bullying in schools. This change sparked discussion among the board regarding how the district addresses and handles the needs of transgender students.

Fulton School Board Reviews Grades 3-8 Standardized Testing Results for 2015

The Fulton City Board of Education released and reviewed standardized testing results for grades 3-8 for the 2014-2015 school year at its September 29 meeting. Elizabeth Conners, executive director of instruction and assessment, presented the assessment report’s results to the board and the meeting’s audience. Overall, Conners emphasized the opportunity for growth and areas for improvement.
