Oswego Mayor Randy Bateman and the members of the Common Council have announced that the fees for public and family swim will be waived at the Gallagher Pool, located at Fort Ontario, for this weekend, commencing today, July 21. It will continue through Sunday, July 24, due to the extreme heat conditions. Also, the sprinklers located in Franklin Square (West Park), Kingsford Park and Oak Hill Park will be on continuously from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. during these same dates.
Supporters of the city’s swimming pool made a big splash in front of the Common Council.In an attempt to save money in next year’s budget, councilors proposed closing the pool. More than 90 people attended a town hall meeting Thursday at the McCrobie Building. Included in that number were dozens of young children, many carrying signs that read: “Don’t be a fool – Don’t close our Pool,” “Swim Lessons Save Lives” and “Don’t Make Me Swim In The River” among other slogans.
