Mexico schools are on a one-hour delay.
Fulton schools are closed – Teaching Staff report at 9:30 and teacher aides report at noon.
Hannibal schools are also closed.
Also closed around the county are Central Square, Mexico, BOCES (including evening classes), Phoenix, and Pulaski.
UPDATE: Fulton is canceling tonight’s special Board of Education meeting to review its construction projects.
As of 9:30 a.m., a travel advisory has been issued for Cayuga County urging no unnecessary travel.
Go ahead. Cut Hannibal’s school budget for 2010-11. There’s a deficit, so make the cuts necessary to fill the hole.
Cut everything. Cut it all. It isn’t enough. Not even close.
In an average year, $1.2 million in spending cuts would produce a tax cut or, at worst, no increase. This isn’t an average year.
Under pressure from the state Education Department, school districts have changed their nicknames and logos if those names and logos could be seen as demeaning to Native Americans. Central Square, for example, changes its nickname from the Redmen to the Red Hawks.
When is a mystery not a mystery? When it is the 8th annual musical presented by Hannibal High School. A renovated wing of the building is expected to be open for business. It’s been closed since the beginning of the school year so the former open classrooms could be converted into regular classrooms and a new media center could be created.
“It’s not a surprise, but it’s rather troubling,” said Fulton Superintendent of Schools Bill Lynch.
