Oswego County Sheriff’s Department Recognized

Oswego County Sheriff’s Department is one of the 18 out of the state’s 62 counties that qualified for civil accreditation, according to Peter Kehoe, counsel and executive director of the NYS Sheriffs’ Association. To achieve accreditation, requires that the Civil Office meets a very strict set of standards set by experts in the field of civil process, he said.

Oswego Council Tables Local Law Resolution

If passed, Local Law #2 of 2010 would amend Chapter 63, Animals, of the Code of the City of Oswego. As of Jan. 1, NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets will no longer be responsible for dog licensing; the state has shifted that task to local municipalities. However, the city was looking to include other things in the law besides the shift in licensing responsibilities.

Oswego Council To Consider Property Tax Cap Plan

According to a proposed resolution prepared by the New York Conference of Mayors: A property tax cap without repeal of costly state mandates will, by definition, lead to drastic cuts in essential local services and dramatic layoffs of municipal employees. They urge state leaders to reform the costs drivers that lead to higher property taxes in New York – including pension benefits, health insurance costs and the collective bargaining process.

Oswego Agrees To Pay Fine Regarding OFD

At its meeting Monday night, the Common Council agreed to the Stipulation and Order set forth by the NYS Department of Health Bureau of Emergency Medical Services regarding violations by the city’s fire department. The state mandated the city pay a $10,000 fine for those violations – $8,000 will be suspended if the department doesn’t violate any other laws.

County Urges State To Support Funding For Parks, Historic Sites

At its meeting Thursday night, the Oswego County Legislature voted unanimously to support full funding of the Land and Water Conservation Fund. The state’s share of the funds would go a long way toward funding historic sites like Fort Ontario and more, said Legislator Morris Sorbello as he offered the resolution for consideration.
