City Pool Likely To Stay Afloat In 2010 Budget

<p>Gallagher Pool, in a photo courtesy of the city of Oswego.</p>Supporters of the city’s swimming pool made a big splash in front of the Common Council.In an attempt to save money in next year’s budget, councilors proposed closing the pool. More than 90 people attended a town hall meeting Thursday at the McCrobie Building. Included in that number were dozens of young children, many carrying signs that read: “Don’t be a fool – Don’t close our Pool,” “Swim Lessons Save Lives” and “Don’t Make Me Swim In The River” among other slogans. In an unofficial poll, the seven councilors said they’d support the pool in next year’s budget

Auer Enjoys Solid State Swim Competiton

Oswego swimmer Michaela Auer was able to compete at the New York State Swimming and Diving Championship meet in Buffalo this weekend as a result of her school record-setting performance at Sectionals two weeks ago.  Only a sophomore, this is the first time that she has qualified for the meet.  Her event, the 100 yard breaststroke, was a strong one at the meet with 64 girls qualifying.  Michaela was ranked 57th going into the meet.

Oswego Laker Swim Club earns Second Place for Small Teams at Mexico Meet

Thirty-five swimmers from the Oswego Laker Swim Club competed on October 24th in Mexico and earned second place in the Small Team category.  Breann Burns and Drake Becksted set new meet records.  Drake received the high point trophy in the 13/14 age group category.
