Oswego County Tourism Partners Work Together to Bring in Visitors

Oswego County public officials and tourism partners gathered last week to learn how they can participate in a new project to increase the number of visitors to the area. Tourism offices in the five counties that make up the CNY Regional Economic Development Committee (Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga and Oswego) are working together to conduct a regional visitor study.

Oswego State men's ice hockey player Eli Kim-Swallow, left, recently earned an honorable mention from the National Association of Division III Athletic Administrators for a project he and fraternity Delta Kappa Kappa undertook this spring to benefit the Child Advocacy Center. With Kim-Swallow is Dan Witmer, coordinator of community service for the Lakers athletics department, which for the third consecutive year won the NADIIIAA's Jostens Community Service Award for an Array of Projects.

Lakers, Ice Hockey Player Earn National Recognition For Service Projects

The Oswego State athletics department recently earned a top community service award from the National Association of Division III Athletic Administrators, thanks to the work of 450 student-athletes participating in 58 community service and outreach events. At a ceremony at the NCAA convention in Washington, D.C., the NADIIIAA recognized Oswego with the Jostens Community Service Award for an Array of Projects for the third consecutive year.

FCSD Junior High Violence Report Addressed

The Fulton City School District administration responded to the state comptroller’s school violence report audit in August but the report’s release to the public last week prompted the superintendent to schedule an information sharing meeting for Monday (Jan. 26) at Fulton Junior High School.
“Student safety is a high priority for the Fulton Board of Education,” BOE President David Cordone said, “and it has taken the findings of the comptroller’s audit very seriously.”
