Oswego County Opportunities, the community action agency for Oswego County, will hold its annual “Giving Thanks” fundraiser on November 1 at the Lake Ontario Convention, Event and Conference Center in Oswego. Established more than 50 years ago, OCO offers more than 50 different human services programs that serve 20,000 people annually.
On August 5, the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Oswego County Deputies Association, hosted the third annual Public Safety Day event at the Oswego County Highway Garage located in Scriba.
The Ladies Golf League at Cold Springs Golf Course in Mannsville recently held its 8th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness golf tournament. The event raised $1,535 in support of the Oswego County Opportunities Cancer Services Program, which provides free mammograms, breast exams and breast ultrasounds for uninsured and under-insured women in Oswego County.

Painter Cindy Schmidt is being featured as Artist of the Month for September at the Riverside Artisans Cooperative. “I’ve gone through a rapid revolution that began with painting portraits and seascapes,” she said. “I have settled into creating fantasy, fairy tale paintings and The Cranky Cat Collection, using acrylic paint on stretched canvas, canvas panels or hardboard.”
As the sun goes down at Oswego Speedway on October 7, the lights will go on at Fulton Speedway, just 15 minutes away, when the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series joins NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week for one night of hot racing action along with the Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modified 25-lap “Win and You’re In,” determining the final starting position in Sunday night’s Billy Whittaker Cars 200 main event.
Accomplished SUNY Oswego music faculty vocalists will present “Vocal Array” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, in Sheldon Hall ballroom as part of the music department’s Focus on Faculty series.
At about 6:17 p.m. today (Sept. 14), the Oswego City Police Department was dispatched to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of East Bridge and Sixth streets. A 32-year-old woman was struck by a small SUV, police report. She was transported by Mentor Ambulance to Fulton where she was then transported to Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, by Mercy Flight with serious injuries. The investigation is on-going.
