A Huntley Hearing held Feb 2 has provided testimony in the case of a Fulton doctor accused of raping a patient in March of 2015. Dilip K. Roy, 51, was arrested on May 5, 2015 and eventually charged with two counts of rape in the third degree, a class E felony, after a patient reported in April that she was subjected to unwanted sexual intercourse during an office visit in March. The 25-year-old patient testified at the hearing in front of Oswego County Court Judge, Donald Todd as well as prosecutor Allison O’Neill and defense attorney Jack Conners.
Executive Director of Instruction and Assessment for Fulton City School District, Elizabeth Conners recently broke down the graduation rates for students in the district noting both areas of excellence as well as areas of concern. At the most recent regular board of education meeting held Jan. 26, Conners presented an overview of the graduation rates for the most three most recent graduation cohorts including students who entered high school as freshmen in 2009, 2010 and 2011 and subsequently graduated in four years in 2013, 2014 and 2015. During these years, the graduation rates have differed widely with the most recent graduating class of 2015 reaching a 69-70% graduation rate.
Current AHL hockey player for the Portland Pirates and Fulton native, Rob Schremp returned to his roots for the 2016 AHL All-Star Weekend (Jan. 31-Feb. 1) at the Syracuse War Memorial. Starting with the AHL All-Stars Skills Competition yesterday (Jan. 31) Schremp performed for the All-Stars East division in the rapid fire event, the pass and score event and the breakaway relay. January is National Mentoring Month and the Fulton City School District has many mentoring programs to acknowledge during this time of recognition. Geri Geitner, Director of Student Support Services for Fulton City School District brought forth these programs for recognition at Tuesday’s (Jan 26) board of education meeting.
The Fulton City School District Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of Brian T. Pulvino to superintendent of schools at Tuesday’s (Jan 26) meeting.
The Fulton City School District still has openings for preschool students in its Universal Pre-Kindergarten program for the current 2015-2016 school year. The UPK program will start registration for the following school year (2016-2017) in March.
Recently purchased by Gary E. Springs, former Nestles building #30 fell victim to $30,000 worth of vandalism believed to happen sometime Saturday (Jan. 9) night. Despite all newly replaced windows and a door being smashed, current owner, Springs, feels this incident is only a minor set back to his plans of opening a U-Haul business and storage facility.
Contrary to the usual winter bliss that hits the area before the holidays, Fulton residents experienced an unfamiliar December with very little snowfall. However, the local McDonalds restaurant still brought the well-known winter wonderland to life at their 701 South Fourth Street location in Fulton. Each year, the Fulton McDonalds restaurant participates in a holiday decorating contest and for the second year in a row, they won the ever sought after first place Santa trophy.
