Groups Clean Up Areas Along Oswego River
Two groups did litter cleanups on the Oswego River this past week. The cleanups were scheduled earlier in the season, but the earlier high water had prevented that from happening.

Alicia Malone and her teammates captured the championship of Catholic Charities’ Inaugural CYO Rock the Rim for Youth Basketball Tournament. Held recently at the Fulton War Memorial, the event was a fundraiser for the CYO Program.
State Senator Patty Ritchie (R-C, Heuvelton) said the Senate today passed a bill she sponsored that would ease local county jail overcrowding by requiring the state to move more quickly in picking up its inmates and placing them back in state prisons.

The Oswego City Firefighters’ Association will hold its fourth annual golf tournament to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The tournament is a four-man captain and crew and will be held at the Tamarack Golf Club on July 10 at 9 a.m.
The sixth graders of the Fitzhugh Park Elementary School celebrated their final days at the east side school with the annual recognition ceremony. Principal Donna Simmons told the students to “Dare to Dream.”
Several student pianists under the instruction of Patty Griffin were recently recognized for their participation in the New York State School Music Association Solo-Fest that took place in May at the Fulton Junior High School.
The Charles E. Riley Elementary School sixth grade honors assembly provided the opportunity to recognize those students moving on to Oswego Middle School while at the same time congratulating them for their academic effort.
