2018 Oswego County Budget Holds the Line on Property Taxes

For the third consecutive year, Oswego County legislators kept the tax rate steady at $7.70 per $1,000 assessed property value with the adoption of the 2018 county budget Thursday night, Dec. 14. The 2018 budget contains $203,004,863 in appropriations, with $43.8 million raised through the property tax levy.

I was in a grocery store the other day and a man came in with his dog on a leash. I love dogs, but I thought that was a little unusual, so I watched them. The dog was wearing a vest that said “Therapy animal – Please don’t pet me.” I know not to interfere with service dogs, so I just observed from a distance. To be honest, it was horrifying to watch.

$55,000 Grant Supports Student Emergency Fund at Cayuga Community College

Cayuga Community College now has additional resources to help students ride out unforeseen financial hardships and emergencies. Students can apply for grants to help cover unexpected expenses, which will allow them to return to their academics as quickly as possible, with the goal of keeping more students on track toward graduation.

Mexico Elementary Has Music, Diversity Lessons

While they learned about Australian culture and music, Mexico Elementary School students also received character trait education during the recent “Didgeridoo Down Under” performance. The students in grades kindergarten through four filed into the cafeteria to find several life lessons and surprises in the interactive show.
