Karrie Damm, executive director of the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego has announced that Nicole Croshier has joined the staff as the agency’s office manager. Croshier, who had previously worked at the Office for the Aging in Madison County, is happy to be once again working for a non-profit agency.
A select group of students who started at SUNY Oswego in fall 2017 have earned Co-op Scholarships worth $24,000 over four years. The Co-op Scholarship is worth $24,000 over four years, and goes to outstanding students interested in pursuing a co-op opportunity who otherwise would have qualified for a Presidential Scholarship.
The Living-Learning Communities (L-LC) at the University at Albany bring outstanding new freshmen into a community of learners. Students live on the same residence hall, take some classes together, build a strong relationship with their L-LC lead professor, and study and participate in co-curricular activities around the theme or intended major of the L-LC.
SUNY Oswego has made merit awards to a select group among the more than 200 transfer students who started at the college in fall 2017.
Granby Elementary School sixth graders recently used their science knowledge and patience to blast model rockets into the air. The students researched Newton’s Laws of Motion, applied them to construct and launch their rockets and discussed how they could apply those laws in their everyday lives.
“We Need To Talk About School Safety: A Conversation Based on Lessons Learned at The Briefings,” taking place Nov. 7, at SUNY Oswego will feature a faculty expert sharing information from a recent national symposium. The event in Marano Campus Center auditorium (Room 132) is free and open to the public, and will begin at 4 p.m., with doors opening at 3:45.
A new nutrition initiative in the Hannibal Central School District is bringing free breakfast and lunch to elementary and middle school students this year. The Community Eligibility Program, offered through the New York State Education Department, provides the meals to the students at no out-of-pocket cost.
By interviewing residents, students in the project heard about many interesting life experiences ranging from the time Helen Yonkers had dinner with Eleanor Roosevelt, wife of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, to Carl Knight’s story of a 102-year-old apple that has been in his family for generations. Diana Ostrow shared memories of her days with a Ballet company that performed at the finest theaters in London, to name a few.
Teachers and administrators welcomed students and their families at the entrance, while the Hannibal Home and School organization, donned in their warrior attire, greeted attendees.
