SUNY Oswego has awarded Merit Scholarships to a select group of students who started at the college in fall 2017. The Merit awards are $3,000 over four years. For non-New York state students, the total award can increase to as much as $39,000 in combination with a Destination Oswego scholarship.
Through METS, an alternative education component of the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation, students in grades seven through 12 whose parents have had to move around mostly for farm work were able to explore educational opportunities beyond high school and shared their career aspirations.
Teachers Becky Craig and Mary Throne collaborated with an art classroom at Westfield High School in Houston to distribute both hygiene and cleaning supplies to homeowners that were left to pick up the pieces after the hurricane destroyed homes and much of their contents.
“With October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month our goal at SAF is to raise awareness of domestic violence in Oswego County and empower community members to take a stand to help bring an end to domestic violence in our communities. When Tammy Elowsky of Zonta suggested the idea of a Halloween themed fundraiser for SAF we were excited about having the ‘Witches Ball’ serve as the culmination of our Domestic Violence Awareness Month activities,” said SAF Community Response Coordinator Stacie France.
Oswego County Opportunities Executive Director Diane Cooper-Currier welcomes Oswego County Federal Credit Union as a Silver Level sponsor for OCO’s “Giving Thanks” fundraiser. The event will be held Nov. 1, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Lake Ontario Convention, Event and Conference Center, 26 E. First St. in Oswego.
L-LCs at UAlbany bring outstanding new transfers into a community of learners who live on the same residence hall, take some classes together, build a strong relationship with their L-LC lead professor, and study and participate in co-curricular activities around the theme or intended major of the L-LC.
SUNY Oswego has awarded Presidential Scholarships to a select group of students from the area who started at the college in fall 2017. The scholarships are $20,000 over four years — $5,000 a year — for students residing on campus. Off-campus Presidential Scholarships are $2,500 a year.
Students at the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation recently learned all about defensive areas, wing areas, cross-checks and goals when they attended the Lax All-Stars North American Invitational Box Lacrosse tournament.
The Charles E. Riley Home and School Community Fair is scheduled for November 18 at the school from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. CER Home and School Association event organizer Laura Ruggio said, “This is an event for both adults and children. Our hope is to make this an annual event that can help raise money to help improve our students’ experience while at school in a manner that can bring out community together.”
Oswego County Opportunities IMPACT program is having just that; a positive impact on the fitness opportunities in Fulton. Over the past year IMPACT has collaborated with Friends of Fulton Parks on several healthy lifestyle initiatives such as the Lake Neatahwanta Nature Trail Walk and the “Get Fulton Fit” wellness challenge.
