‘Student Night’ returns to kick off the Oswego International War of 1812 Symposium at 6 p.m. on April 1. The Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center in Oswego hosts the sixth annual event which features an esteemed panel of multi-national historians through April 3.

While the Oswego Fire Department hasn’t had an ice rescue situation as of yet this winter, other communities in the Northeast have experienced close calls and tragedies as a result of thin ice. The Oswego Fire Department cautions residents and visitors to stay off any ice near the Oswego River and Lake Ontario.

Mayor William Barlow Jr. took the first steps Monday night to rejuvenate the Port City’s presence on the web. The mayor said he has worked collaboratively and extensively with the Community Development Director and City Attorney in developing the first phase in this comprehensive marketing approach. The city can do a more effective job promoting itself to attract individuals and families to live here as well as businesses and investors to invest here as well, the mayor said. “Phase one of this process is to revamp the city’s website,” Barlow said.
