Shineman Foundation Donates Nearly $300,000 to CNY Not-for-Profits

Sixteen Central New York not-for-profit organizations, a large percentage of which are based in Oswego County, received grants from the Richard S. Shineman Foundation in its second grant round of 2015 at its July board meeting. Projects encompass a wide range of focus areas, including health and welfare for children, training and education, arts and culture, armed forces outreach, Neighborhood parks, and capital campaigns. These projects will benefit Oswego County on a number of fronts.

K&N’s Celebrates A Year Of Growth In Fulton

With the one-year anniversary of its operations approaching, the leadership at K&N’s Foods USA in Fulton is feeling optimistic about where the company is headed. Located in the former BirdsEye Foods plant on Phillips Street, K&N’s began setting up shop in Fulton — its flagship operation in the United States — in 2013, and started commercial production on Aug. 4, 2014. By the end of September 2014, it had completed its first sale, and has continued lining up new distributors since.

Volunteers Help Curb Spread of Water Chestnuts

This past Saturday, a group of 12 volunteers hand-pulled the invasive water chestnuts from the Battle Island area of the Oswego River. The establishment of water chestnut can result in large floating mats of vegetation that “clog” aquatic habitats and limit the penetration of sunlight into the water column, impeding the growth of native plants and ultimately disrupting the food web.

Third Annual ‘Ladies Rule the Range’ Right On Target

100 energetic women packed into Pathfinder Fish and Game Club recently to test their aim with multiple different firearms. The third annual Ladies Rule the Range event saw great success and reached the desired goal, 100 participants. Starting out with 50 women in its first year, the event grew into its second year with 81 women participating. With more than 40 instructors, the ladies were very actively and accurately briefed on the handling of seven separate stations of firearms.

State Police Probe Armed Robbery At Oswego Town Kwik Fill

The New York State Police in Fulton are investigating an Armed Robbery that occurred on Thursday (July 30) at approximately 10:44 p.m. at the Kwik Fill located at 7559 State Route 104 in the town of Oswego. There are three suspects involved, all are white males, wearing black clothing and black head/face coverings, troopers said.

The Oswego County Health Department today (July 31) announced that the State Department of Health has approved its plan of closing the Certified Home Healthcare Agency. “Since 1966, Oswego County CHHA has provided services to thousands of county residents,” said County Legislator John Proud, District 7, Mexico, chairman of the Legislature’s Health Committee. “However, a number of financial issues, and elimination of state funding over the past several years, have affected the viability of the CHHA program. “
