After more than 90 minutes of debate, sometimes emotional, the Oswego County Legislature named a new county treasurer on Thursday night. Fred Beardsley was appointed by a rather fragmented vote. The vote was 14 yes to 7 no, with 2 absent, one abstention and one vacant.
The Oswego County Autism Task Force is sponsoring its seventh annual Family Fun Walk for Autism on April 27. The family – friendly event will take place at Leighton School and Wilber Field and Track in Oswego, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Friends of Great Bear has scheduled an invitational meeting for people interested in helping at Great Bear Springs Recreational Area. Great Bear Springs is a non-motorized, share the trails recreational area, encompassing over 400 acres, with several miles of marked trails, located adjacent to Route 57 in the town of Volney. The meeting will be held at the Fulton Y on April 17 at 7 p.m., room D.

Build-A-Bear Workshop established the Huggable Heroes Program in 2004 as a way to recognize kids that demonstrate extraordinary service for causes that make a difference in the quality of life in their local communities and around the world. Oswego’s Emily Bradshaw was recently chosen as a semifinalist.
The Oswego High School Guard finished off an undefeated season at The Mid-York Color Guard Circuit Championships this past weekend at North Syracuse Junior High School.
Oswego captured first place in all judging captions with a score of 81.51 to win the title in the Scholastic A2 category.
Rep. Dan Maffei announced today (April 10) that the Palermo Volunteer Fire Department will receive a $90,801 grant in Round 21 of the FY2012 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program which is administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The Fulton School Board adopted the 2013-14 budget Tuesday night. It will be voted on by the public next month. The budget was not adopted unanimously. The vote was 4 yes, 2 no, and 1 abstention. The board members who voted against the budget were concerned about the tax levy increase.
