Wreaths Across America Announces Participation In Historic Three-day Event On National Mall To Welcome Home And Honor Our Nation’s Vietnam Veterans

Wreaths Across America (WAA) is proud to announce participation in a historic three-day event taking place in Washington D.C., May 11-13, on the National Mall, as part of the 50th Anniversary of The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration (VWC). The VWC will be hosting a multi-location event: “Welcome Home! A Nation Honors our Vietnam Veterans and Their Families.”  This interactive, immersive experience will feature over 90 participating organizations, and is open to the public. Everyone is encouraged to come to this generational learning opportunity with their family.

The New York State Department Of Labor Marks Workers’ Memorial Day With Planned Monument Honoring Fallen State Employees

The New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) today marked Workers’ Memorial Day by unveiling plans for a new, permanent memorial that will pay tribute to the State employees who passed away, including line of duty deaths, while serving New York State. The memorial site, which will feature a plaque, will be located near the reflecting pool in front of the NYSDOL office on the Harriman State Office Campus in Albany. The names of the victims can be viewed on this online memorial webpage. The memorial serves as a permanent reminder of the importance of the NYSDOL Public Employee Safety and Health Bureau’s (PESH) mission to provide occupational safety and health protection to all public sector employees.

“A life lost on the job is one too many,” said New York State Department of Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon. “We must never forget our colleagues who lost their lives while serving the people of New York. The Department of Labor will continue to proactively ensure proper safety measures and practices are in place to protect our public workers while on the job.”

NYS Office Of Mental Health Announces $33 Million Investment To Combat Street Homelessness Through Safe Options Support Teams

The NYS Office of Mental Health (OMH) today announced awards totaling $33 million over five years to create seven new Safe Options Support (SOS) Teams that will provide intensive outreach, engagement and care coordination services to individuals living with mental illness who are homeless and unsheltered, often living on the streets.  S.O.S. teams are comprised of licensed clinicians, care managers, and peer specialists who partner with local government, community providers, hospitals, law enforcement, and others to identify and work with high-risk individuals.

Baldwinsville Eighth-Grader Wins National Girl Scout Essay Contest

Eighth-grader Charlotte DuBois of Baldwinsville, N.Y., a Girl Scout Cadette in Troop 10210 and a member of the NYPENN Pathways (GSNYPENN) Council is one of 81 winners from across the country of the “Girl Scouts to the Moon and Back” national essay contest. Girls shared how they saw their role in space exploration using creative writing skills and research facts from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
