Dec Announces Prescribed Fire At Ashland Flats Wildlife Management Area In Jefferson County

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced today the agency will be conducting a prescribed burn at Ashland Flats Wildlife Management Area (WMA), in the town of Lyme, Jefferson County. Ashland Flats WMA contains 2,028 acres of primarily open meadows, second growth, and young forests east of Lake Ontario. Approximately 40 acres will be affected by this activity. The prescribed fire is weather dependent but anticipated to occur between April 1 and May 1 this year.

Oswego County Department of Social Services (DSS) held a job recruitment fair this past Saturday. Job seekers were able to speak with current employees in various divisions, including Adult and Child Protective Services, Employment and Training, child support, assistance programs and more. Employees shared their experiences with applicants and answered any questions they had about the various job opportunities available at DSS.

Volunteer Firefighters Save New York Taxpayers $4.7 Billion Annually

New York’s volunteer firefighters, which respond to emergency calls in a majority of the State, save not only lives and property, but also billions in taxpayer dollars. According to an economic impact study released today by the Firefighters Association of the State of New York (FASNY), these dedicated volunteers help New York taxpayers save $4.7 billion annually through their services.
