Hannibal turned 150 years old with a party, cake and declarations of loyalty to the tiny village.
513 people live in the village, according to the U.S. Census’s 2008 estimate. That’s not many more than lived there when the village was founded on April 7, 1860.
Hannibal turns 150 on Saturday and will throw a party to celebrate.
The village begins its sesquicentennial celebration Saturday afternoon by unveiling a new book on the village’s history. The book is called “Pictorial History of Hannibal, NY” by town and village historian and former Mayor Lowell Newvine.
On Good Friday, The village of Hannibal was the benefactor as 42 S.O.S. members, along with 4 parents for support, proceeded to clean the village sidewalks.

Petty Officer Jeffrey Wahl of the U.S. Navy was a guest speaker for the language and business classes at Hannibal High School. Officer Wahl is a Navy linguist and cryptologist and speaks eight languages fluently.
Hannibal Historical Society has been given a unique fundraising opportunity: Rashelle Pitcher, self-taught painter and avid crafter, has applied her talents to the creation of a hand-painted chest, decorated with images from Hannibal’s past.
Students at Hannibal High School were recently treated to a presentation by alumnus Kevin Matteson. He attends Hobart College and recently participated in a Study Abroad program in Madrid, Spain.
