The H. Lee White Marine Museum is pleased to announce a three-part mini lecture series on the topic of the “Lighthouses of Oswego,” featuring Ted Panayotoff, lighthouse historian and city of Oswego Lighthouse Committee chair who will discuss the various lights, the lighthouse keepers and related topics.
The H. Lee White Marine Museum, located on the West First Street Pier in Oswego’s Historic Maritime District, is open Monday – Sunday, 1-5 p.m.
The program was offered by the Oswego Maritime Foundation, the H. Lee White Marine Museum with support from the SUNY Oswego Technology Department.
In the tradition of beloved local storyteller, Mrs. Rosemary Nesbitt, we will gather at the Museum’s historic 1925 New York State Derrick Boat No. 8 for a night of mysteries, myths and ghost stories. Well-known tales told over the years will be presented as well as stories involving shipwrecks and disappearances.
Replicas of the Nina and Pinta, ‘floating museums,’ are at the H. Lee White Marine Museum this weekend for visitors to view and even climb aboard and look around.
The H. Lee White Marine Museum will be closed Sunday, July 3, due to the traffic limitations related to the Independence Day Parade. The museum will re-open for regular hours on Monday July 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The H. Lee White Marine Museum is partnering with the Oswego Maritime Foundation, and the Department of Technology at SUNY to offer Family Boat Building, right here in Oswego’s Historic Maritime District.
“This weekend is about commemorating the 67th anniversary of D-Day, in which our national historic landmark tugboat, the LT-5, participated,” said Mercedes Niess, executive director of the museum. “We’re recognizing not only the veterans of our county but also this tugboat as well.”
The H. Lee White Marine Museum along with representatives from the Town of Oswego recently unveiled a new exhibit highlighting Medal of Honor recipient and Town of Oswego civil war hero, James H. Lee and his service aboard the U.S. Sloop of War, Kearsarge during the Civil War.
