Today’s Data: Census Shows More Population Loss In Oswego County
The county lost 174 people from 2008 to 2009, according to the Census. The county’s population stands at 121,377. For the decade, the county peaked in 2004 with 122,802 residents.

Oswego County Implements $5 Fee to Recycle TVs, Monitors and Microwaves
County Legislator Fred Beardsley, chairman of the Infrastructure and Facilities Committee, said the electronics recycling program has been very successful but has become increasingly expensive to maintain, especially over the last two years. In 2009 the solid waste department paid more than $85,000 to dispose of recycled electronics.

Unemployment in Oswego County Soars To 17 Year High
The New York State Labor Department reports joblessness in the county soared to 11.6% in January. That’s the highest point for unemployment since Feb., 1993, when the rate was also 11.6%.

United Way Of Greater Oswego County Annual Campaign A Success
This year, the United Way of Greater Oswego County set an ambitious goal of $880,000. I am happy to say that our campaign is a success story. To date we have achieved 85.2% of that goal which equates to $750,000.
