For the fifth time in 2009, the county’s unemployment rate crossed 10%.
Figures released by the state Labor Department Thursday show that Oswego County’s jobless rate soared to 10.6% in December, up 1.3 percentage points from the month before.
Legislator Barry D. Leemann, District 4, was re-elected to his third term as Chairman of the Oswego County Legislature at the 2010 organizational meeting. Oswego County legislators also re-elected were John Proud, District 7, to his third term as Vice Chairman, and re-elected Ted Jerrett to his twelfth term as Clerk of the Legislature.
There are some new names as the legislature welcomed five new members today (Jan. 7). The lawmakers also approved an intermunicipal agreement with the town of Scriba and Oswego City School District regarding negotiations with Constellation Energy’s nuclear power plants at Nine Mile Point.
Recently, Oswego County Legislature Chairman Barry Leemann put out a call for a “citizen-friendly†tax bill, charging the Legislature’s Consumer and Community Affairs Committee and several county departments with the task of developing a new format.
