In an effort to ensure every child is prepared for school, the United Way of Greater Oswego County held its annual Success By 6 “Stuff a Bus†campaign at 10 different bus locations around the county. The school supplies will now be divided among the nine districts in the coming days.
Outside construction official Phil Wise told the Board of Education Wednesday night that the $330,000 project has come in about $52,000 under budget. About $48,000 of the surplus remains.
Board member claims that many students have been promoted to the next grade level before they are academically prepared. It contributes to the district’s dropout and low graduation rates, he said, adding, “I think social promotion is an absolute abject failure.”

Volunteers from the Oswego County Teachers Association and United Way Success By 6 staff will sort the collected supplies with a portion going to all of the school districts in Oswego County.
Nominations are being accepted for the Oswego City School District “Friends of Education†and “Friend of Education†awards. The deadline for nominations is Aug. 26.

The Oswego City School District Board of Education today (July 14) approved the acceptance of a bid for sod replacement at Joe Wilber Field and allowing a volunteer to prepare the field for the sod installation.
