Author Laurie Halse Anderson to Speak at SUNY Oswego Oct. 19

The event, free and open to the public, ties in with the college’s “Arts, Identity and Diaspora” Artswego series on the experiences of those displaced by economic, cultural or political hardships. Halse’s forthcoming young-adult novel, “Chains,” follows the struggle for freedom and dignity of Isabel, an 18th century slave girl owned by wealthy New Yorkers.

In addition to lecturing in her Advanced Public Relations class, SUNY Oswego Public Relations Professor Tina Pieraccini is giving her students an opportunity to apply what they have learned to a good cause. Oswego Jazz Project to play Lake Effect Cafe on Oct. 15

The concert will showcase music from the group’s two albums, “Oswego Jazz Project” (2007) and “And the Time Is Now” (2008). OJP consists of SUNY Oswego music faculty members Dr. Robert Auler on keyboards, Dr. Eric Schmitz on drums and Trevor Jorgensen on saxophone, with Oswego alumnus Max McKee on bass.
