On May 3, individuals involved in law in Oswego County ranging from judges to lawyers to law secretaries gathered in the Oswego County Courthouse to recognize Law Day. The afternoon was organized by Oswego County Bar Association President Kristin Shanley. Members of Oswego Players took to the front of the courtroom to stage an adaptation of “Susan B,” a play by Gary Paul Lehmann.
Several local residents are scheduled to complete their graduate studies this year at SUNY Oswego and will be recognized May 18 at the college’s Commencement. The following local residents (with their academic major in parentheses) are eligible to participate in the graduation ceremonies:
Helen Caster of Fulton is one of six students involved in a unique learning opportunity, an all-female construction project on the SUNY Delhi campus. Caster is currently pursuing an associate’s degree in Architectural Technology.
On Saturday, May 4, 11 local paddlers participated in Canal Clean Sweep for the historic Battle Island area of the Oswego River. Very little littler was found along the shoreline. Stopping to view and explore Battle Island, an abandoned and deteriorated campsite was discovered.
Graveside services with military honors for Robert A. Bracy, who died March 12, 2013, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at Hannibal Village Cemetery, West Street, Hannibal.
The city of Fulton has partnered with the Fulton Community Revitalization Corporation to soon begin a comprehensive restoration project of Lake Neatahwanta, it was announced by Fulton Mayor Ronald Woodward. When completed, it will enhance the area’s tourism, economic development, and recreation opportunities for the community.
Henry J. Brown, 83, of Fulton, died on Tuesday May 7, 2013, at Pontiac Nursing Home, Oswego, after a short illness.
Norma Lou Halstead, 43, of Fulton, passed away suddenly on Monday May 6, 2013.
Two of the area’s most talented and popular musicians will be featured this year at the 32nd Annual Fulton Memorial Day Salute. On May 24 at 6 p.m., Rick Bush, a Fulton native, will bring his musical talents to the stage. On May 25 at 6 p.m., Vince Markowsky will take the stage.
