Despite harsh weather and pending school closings, more than 220 juniors and seniors from Oswego County high schools and their teachers attended this year’s Training and Careers Expo at the Swetman Gym on the SUNY Oswego campus March 14.
Award winning singer/songwriter Jared Campbell visited Volney Elementary School recently where he performed and inspired the students at the school with his positive message of student empowerment.
Oswego Opera Theater, under the direction of Dr. Juan F. La Manna, a music professor at SUNY Oswego, will present the children’s opera “Brundibár” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 14, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at the Church of the Resurrection, 120 W. Fifth St. in Oswego.
There will be a Relay For Life of Oswego-Fulton kickoff celebration Tuesday, March 27, at Vona’s Restaurant in Oswego. The event will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Vona’s, 9 Willow St. There will be food, information tables, fundraising ideas and more.
Senator Patty Ritchie is inviting people to nominate friends, coworkers and local leaders who have made a difference in their communities for the New York State Senate’s “Women of Distinction” program.
The Oswego County Historical Society will host its 31st Annual “Not So Silent Auction” fundraiser on April 6 from 6 – 9 p.m. at The American Foundry, 246 W. Seneca St., Oswego. Admission is $20 and includes a light food buffet, refreshments and cash bar. Tickets are available in advance and at the door the day of the event.
The Oswego Kiwanis Club and the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau will host an Easter egg hunt at Breitbeck Park beginning at 10 a.m. March 31. No registration is required. The event features free raffles, candy in eggs and goody bags for all kids, with refreshments and games in the pavilion after the hunt.
She is a cuddly cat who can’t get enough attention. She will sit on your lap, or right next to you, and probably on your head if she had the chance. She is not a fan of other cats or dogs, but loves any and every human she comes in contact with.
The program is designed by the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services and covers a broad range of emergency-preparedness topics, like developing a family emergency plan, stocking up on emergency supplies, and registering for NY-Alert, the free statewide emergency alert system.
SUNY Oswego’s popular summertime educational enrichment program will touch the lives of many more schoolchildren for generations to come, thanks to a $1 million gift from the Richard S. Shineman Foundation to expand the institute and rename it the “Sheldon Institute for Barbara Shineman Scholars.”
