SUNY Oswego May 2023 Grad Presents Tuberculosis Research At World Conference On Undergraduate Research In U.K.

SUNY Oswego senior biochemistry major and May 2023 graduate Fathima Raviya Careem recently presented her research on tuberculosis at this year’s World Congress on Undergraduate Research (WorldCUR) in the U.K. She is the first SUNY Oswego student to do so.

Constellation Aids OCO Programs

Oswego County Opportunities (OCO) was the recipient of a $10,000 gift from Constellation in support of the agency’s many human services programs. The gift is part of Constellation’s commitment to supporting charitable organizations in the community it serves. OCO was nominated by Constellation Nine Mile Point Plant employee Jessica Piper as a result of the support and services OCO’s Services to Aid Families program (SAF) provided for a family member that was experiencing domestic violence. OCO welcomed her to its SAF house where she and her children could be secure and sheltered from the abuse.

NYS Office Of General Services Announces Statewide Collection Of Worn American Flags For Proper Disposal

New York State Office of General Services (OGS) Commissioner Jeanette Moy today announced that OGS will today start collecting worn and tattered flags at locations statewide so that they can be properly retired. The collected flags will be disposed of as part of the Memorial Watchfire hosted by the CNY Veterans Recognition Foundation, with the continuing participation of Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 103, on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse. ConnextCare is pleased to announce the winner of the annual Kathy A. Ellis Scholarship. This year’s $500 scholarship winner is Ashley Rupert, LPN. The Kathy A. Ellis Scholarship is awarded annually to an individual entering a program or continuing education in the field of nursing. Dec Announces New Display Of Elephant Ivory Seized From Illegal Trade At New York State Museum

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos today announced elephant ivory seized during a massive DEC-led crackdown on the illegal ivory trade is now on display at the New York State Museum. The announcement of the new display, just prior to Endangered Species Day on May 19, is a reminder of the rampant and continued slaughter of the African elephant, rhinoceros, and other iconic endangered species that fuel the transnational illegal trade in wildlife.
