Having just turned 16 years old, Fulton native Ryan Michaels is playing among some of the best young basketball players in the nation with his role on the NYC based team, the NY Jayhawks. With immense dedication, Michaels travels to NYC on a weekly basis and to several states across the country each weekend to play in tournaments with and against fellow basketball players headed to Division 1 colleges and even the NBA.
The Fulton City School District finished the Unified Basketball season with nothing but smiles. Specifically for Fulton City School District, a unified basketball team paired 12 special education students referred to as “athletes” with five general education students referred to as “partners.” The team was part of a league of six teams from school districts throughout the section including East Syracuse Minoa, Baldwinsville, Fayetteville-Manlius, Liverpool and West Genesee.
Less than a year after fighting to improve with the Oswego State women’s basketball team on the hardwood of Max Ziel Gymnasium, Rachael Windhausen was fighting for something different – her life. Rachael was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma after a series of tests and scans over the summer, changing her focus from post moves and jump shots to chemotherapy treatments and survival.
