Tuesday’s night public hearing on the 2013-14 Oswego City School District budget quickly digressed into a full-blown discussion for several minutes involving the speaker, board members, a union official and audience members.
Paul Sherman, an art teacher at G. Ray Bodley High School and a performer of many
musical instruments, sent out a notice to all teachers hoping to form a faculty band. Due to lack of interest and available talent, Paul talked to Carol Fox about the possibility of forming a community band and thus there was a beginning.
Still warm on Wednesday as the threat of rain returns.
A local tavern owner’s request for a waiver of the noise ordinance created a din at Monday’s Planning and Development Committee meeting. Don Wahrendorf, representing The Sting, 49 W. Bridge St., requested the variance for the summer months for live acoustic music on the patio. The request failed to get a favorable recommendation.
The Oswego City School District will conduct the annual public hearing on the proposed 2013-2014 budget on Tuesday evening. It will be held in the board room of the Education Center on East First Street. The public hearing will be called to order at 6 p.m.
During a special meeting Monday night, the Cayuga Community College Board of Trustees continued discussions of budgetary and bargaining unit issues after hearing from 10 campus members and witnessing a group of 40 students rallying in support of College employees. The college and board is working to reduce expenditures of its $32.36 million operating budget by approximately $1.5 million before the end of the fiscal year on August 31, 2013, to help make up for an unexpected 5 percent enrollment decrease.
UPDATE: Dock was located on May 7
Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin Walsh reports that deputies are investigating the larceny of a floating dock. On Sunday at 11:30 a.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to the Oneida Bay Marina to investigate the theft. The property owner reported that sometime between 11 p.m. on May 4 and 11:30 a.m. on May 5, a section of floating dock was stolen.

Fulton’s G. Ray Bodley High School Jazz Band is scheduled to perform at the 32nd Annual Fulton Memorial Day Salute on May 24 at 5 p.m. The Jazz Ensemble is made up of members of G. Ray Bodley High School and led by Terry Caviness, the high school band director.
