New Historical Marker Program Celebrating Transportation History Launches Nationwide

To commemorate transportation history in the United States, the William G. Pomeroy Foundation is proud to announce the national launch of its Historic Transportation Marker Grant Program.

Actor Carl Whidden, left, will present "A Christmas Carol" at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6, in Hewitt Union ballroom at SUNY Oswego. He will play all the roles in the Dickens classic, including Ebenezer Scrooge, the one he played while a student in 1973. Here, a chastened Scrooge hoists Tiny Tim for the end-of-play blessing. The Rosemary Nesbitt production 40 years ago featured dozens of area children.

Auditions For The Oswego Players December Production Of A Christmas Carol

The Oswego Players will be holding auditions for their upcoming December production of the holiday classic “A Christmas Carol” adapted by Peter DeLaurier. The director of the production Jennifer Hitchcock is looking for a cast of a 16 to 35 men, women and children ages 4 and up. Many of these roles are gender flexible and more actors can be a part of the ensemble roles.

College Rivals Reunite For Local Operetta

In an extraordinary twist of fate that seems straight out of a classic opera plot, Kevin Siembor and Matthew Fleming, opera performers who last shared the stage twenty years ago, have reignited their on-stage rivalry in the upcoming comedic operetta “The 1812 Underture.” Their journey began at SUNY Fredonia in 2000, where they not only nurtured their musical talents but also developed a spirited, friendly competition. Now, two decades later, they play bitter rivals in a comic operetta set to debut inside Historic Fort Ontario, on September 22nd and 23rd at 6:30 p.m.

Bruce W. Pierce

On September 6, 2023, Bruce W. Pierce, Sr. lost his battle with cancer leaving behind his wife, Rebecca (Krtanik); children, Rhonda Pierce of Fulton, Bruce, Jr. of Bullard, TX, Joshua (Michelle) of Oswego; grandsons, Wolfgang, Maximus, and Roman; granddaughters, Vharie and Kitty; great granddaughters, Alphia and Odette. He was predeceased by his son, Frank.

AAA: Gas Prices Up Two Cents

Today’s national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.83, up two cents from last Monday. One year ago, the price was $3.72. The New York State average is $3.89, no change from a week ago. A year ago, the NYS average was $3.90. AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:

Oswego Health Offers FREE Hernia Screening Clinic To Community

Preventative health screenings help people understand their risk for developing chronic conditions before symptoms are present, while they can still take action. An estimated 1.6 million groin hernias are diagnosed and 500,000 are surgically repaired annually in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Some 27 percent of men and 3 percent of women are expected to have a groin hernia — the most common type — during their lifetimes.
